A video card, video adapter, graphics-accelerator card, display adapter or graphics card is an expansion card whose function is to generate and output images to a display. Many video cards offer added functions, such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes and 2D graphics, video capture, TV-tuner adapter, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding, FireWire, light pen, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors (multi-monitor), while other modern high performance cards are used for more graphically demanding purposes such as PC games- wikipedia
Question:
I have an old radeon card which I bought nearly 6 years ago, can I overclock it can I play high end games with it?
answer:
Yes, you can overclock any card no matter how old it is and you might stand a chance to play high end games with tweaks and little sacrifice on framerate and quality.
There are few methods to overclock a card, you can volt mod your card, not the easy way but your reward is great or doing simple/soft mod using pencil aka pencil mod and overclocking tool such as Rivatuner, Ati tray tool or ATItool and tweak in the Windows. And the hassle free is to buy a factory overclocked card from HIS or Powercolor(just to name a few)
Anyway here are some samples of overclocked card:
